Gijs Bakker foyer chairs from Theater De Lieve Vrouw, Amersfoort.

Two rare foyer chairs, specially designed for the foyer of Theater De Lieve Vrouw in Amersfoort by renowned Dutch designer Gijs Bakker. Gijs Bakker is best known for designing the Strip Table and Strip Chairs. These chairs were produced in 1989 (as confirmed by the information on the accompanying photo from Gijs Bakker’s website). They feature an oval beechwood backrest mounted on a black steel frame. The wooden seat has been reupholstered in red skai leather. A simple yet ingenious spring mechanism allows the backrest to tilt slightly for optimal comfort. Notably, one chair has an armrest on the left side, while the other has it on the right, making them a beautifully matched pair.
