Simonetta desk lamp by Massimo Iosa Ghini for B Lux, 1989

The height-adjustable, 90-degree swivel desk lamp is designed by Massimo Iosa Ghini. The fuselage rests on a chrome circular chrome base, in which the switch is attached. Ghini is an Italian designer and architect, known for his streamlined and organic works. This lamp named 'Simonetta' was made for B Lux and dates back to 1989 and has an ingenious finish. The inverter is located inside the base to switch from 220 volts to 12 volts. The power is directed to the halogen lamp via the two arms with the plus and minus sides on each side. Ghini could have easily got rid of it by mounting two wires to the light, but not so. He opted for a solution of extraordinary beauty.

Iosa Ghini is recognized as one of the pioneers of Bolidism, a style characterized by the prominence of visual and medial aspects over functional purposes, depicting the transition from materiality to a more visual representation of objects. This vibrant style originated in the 1980s and is inspired by futurism, expressing a fascination for the interaction between people and machines.
